The Publishing Game
Coordinated By: The Eastside Educational Trust
Project Partners: Arts Council England, The National Magazine Group, London College of Communication
Date: 2007
Participant Age Range: Teens
Following the 2004 In Full Colour research outlining the under-representation of Black and Minority Ethnic groups within the publishing industry, Arts Council England devised the Diversity in Publishing program. The Publishing Game — one arm of that program — exposed young people from diverse backgrounds to the sometimes-invisible world of magazine and book publishing. By getting young people to work in tandem with international publishers — to design a magazine and anthology "for youth, by youth" — The Publishing Game aimed to remove cultural barriers, showcase publishing as an exciting career option, and build strategic partnerships between schools and publishers to help redress the imbalance in the sector.
