Compositions 1

Compositions 1 [shown December 2000 in the Lotus Eaters Gallery and January 2001 in ArteVista Gallery; Montreal, Canada] was a mixed media exhibition concerned with the various relationships between bodies and space: bodies at rest and moving through space, space that is absorbed into the body, and the physical and imaginative processes of discerning where the body ends and the landscape begins. The poets and photographers of the Echophilia collective — Kai Fierle-Hedrick, Maria Kennedy, Shana Lapenskie, Andreae Prozesky, and Reiko Waisglass — sought to identify ways in which descriptions of ‘us’ and ‘it’ overlap [for example: ‘bodies of water’ and ‘mountains of flesh’], and to investigate the limitations and possibilities of this overlap.
